Neat Merganser Hen Decoy by an Unknown Maker from Long Island, circa Early 20th Century. Long Island is well-know for its Cork-bodied, wood Head Decoys and this Merganser Hen in Strong Original Paint is a Classic Example. At one time, there was a full rig of these birds and we had four of them. Over the years they have been dispersed and this is the last one. The decoy measures 15 ˝” in length, 5” in width, and 6” in height, including the weight. Fine Example. (DX412) Click on Photo for larger image. Contact us for additional photos. Here’s a Great Pair of Gunning Bluebill Decoys (or Blackheads according to Chesapeake Bay IDs ) by Charlie Bryan (1920-2008), Middle River, Maryland, circa 1960s-1970s. According to Hagan’s Upper Chesapeake Bay Decoys and Their Makers, Bryan’s body and head carving was influenced by Madison Mitchell and his paint style by Charlie Joiner. This pair displays both of those influences. Since they were used for hunting, they show some typical wear – some rubs, dents, and a couple of shot holes, and the Hen’s neck has a tight check. Nonetheless, they display Excellent Original Paint, the Original Rigging and no significant problems. They measure 15” in length, close to 6” in width, and 8” in height, including the weight. If you are looking for a Good, Legitimate Pair of Gunning Decoys by Charlie, this is the pair. (DX394) Click on Photo for larger image. Contact us for additional photos. Price $1050 plus shipping |

Rare Cobb Island Style Hollow Carved Brant Decoy by New Jersey Master Carver Steve Morey. Morey has long been considered one of the major New Jersey carvers and is perhaps most well-known for his shorebird decoys. Yet, during his early carving career he established himself as a highly diversified maker, producing works such as this Brant in Very Limited Numbers. This Brant displays an “Aged” Original Paint, Hollow Body Carving with Shot Marks and a Split Tail Form, a Typical Cobb Style Hard Wood Bill Dowelled through the Head, and Glass Eyes. It has the carved Morey “M” on the bottom behind the weight. This Brant measures 17” in length, 6 ˝” in width, and 9 ˝” in height. This Piece is Fresh to the Market and a Fine Example of American Folk Art. (DX432) Click on Photo for larger image. Contact us for additional photos. SOLD |

Rare Pair of Kapok and Cork Filled Canvas-Covered Pintails by the Oliveros Manufacturing Company (circa 1941-1950s), Houston, Texas, circa 1950s. Constant Oliveros was a business associate and part owner of the Armstrong Featherweight Decoy Company (circa 1938-1945) in Houston, Texas, but later began his own business. There is a photograph of a similar pair of these late style Pintails in Ken Trayer’s North American Factory Decoys, which examines both decoy companies, and Trayer notes that the Oliveros Pintails are rare. The decoys measure approximately 15” in length, 5 ˝” in width, and 6” in height. They are in Excellent Original Condition with Minor Use or Age Wear. (DX421) Click on Photo for larger image.
